US court sentences Indian in credit card fraud case
The US District Court in Manhattan sentenced to one year and one day in prison Syed Gul Mohammed Shah, 35, an Indian, for credit card fraud.
Shah, a Hyderabad resident, was also ordered to pay restitution of about $415,000. He admitted selling 15 fraudulent credit cards for up to $2,000 each on the black market.
He and Mohammed Jaweed Azmath, 37, were arrested on a train in Texas a day after the September 11 attacks. The authorities found two box cutters, hair dye, a knife and several thousand dollars among their belongings, but later concluded that the two men were not linked to terrorism.
